Plastic Recycling in Sheffield - Plumb Polymers

Plumb Polymers Ltd is part of C.Plumb & Sons (Hatfield) Ltd.

We are a long established plastic recycling company in Sheffield. We buy, collect and recycle different types of plastics nationwide. We care about our environment and recycling products such as cardboard and plastic allows them to be used again and be turned into something else.

1960

We are a family business, founded in 1960 in Doncaster by my Grandfather, Father and Uncle who offered a cardboard collection service to the shops and supermarkets in Doncaster.

At the end of the 1960s a skip service was started, to aid cardboard collections and soon a fleet of 10 skip lorries were making collections within a 50 mile radius. The cardboard was baled and sent to one on the many paper mills in the UK at that time.

I remember spending my summer holidays as a boy in the factory, sorting and baling waste paper. There is an early video of my Father and Grandfather baling cardboard on an old hay baler, which makes interesting viewing.

Late 1970s to Early 1980s

At the end of the 1970s, we opened a further cardboard recycling depot in Sheffield and then in the early 1980s another depot in Leeds and paper collections were made nationally. At this time the popularity of plastic as a packaging material was growing rapidly and faced with growing demands to provide a plastic recycling service to our customers, plastic collections were started.

Both cardboard and plastic were recycled throughout the 1980s until 1988 when the cardboard business was sold to a major UK Paper Mill.

1990s

The Plastic recycling business, however, continued to operate from Doncaster, and grew steadily throughout the 1990s. In 1997 we moved to larger premises in  Rotherham, South Yorkshire under the name of Plumb Polymers Ltd and began the reprocessing of polythene film.

2010

In 2010, having outgrown the Rotherham site, and wanting to expand the areas of operation, we moved to our present location in Sheffield, where we are able to undertake all aspects of plastic recycling.

Today

Most recently we have begun to manufacture Ecobubblewrap. This is traditional bubblewrap but manufactured using a high recycled content.
